Literature Text

The dull gray-orange peel is
a battered wife. The
porous Apple rolled on its
good side to hide the
unnatural, purple
flesh. A temporary
solution. Soon, the Pears
and the Bananas will
talk. They will discuss
the probability that the Apple
rolling off the shelf was
“just an accident.”
They will discuss
the way the humans
look away – their eyes
shifting toward
the younger fruit.
The Apple will lay
on the shelf in shame
and pretend it is a real Apple,
not an imposter.
Well, this is a poem, about an fruit, that wishes to be an apple.

(It's not as simplistic as that, but that's what it's about on the surface)
